Staunton State Park Hosts Open Houses to Recruit Partners
PINE, Colo. - Exciting things are happening at Staunton State Park. The park isn't open yet, but Colorado's newest state park has moved past the planning stage and is now into design and construction. Staunton is expected to open as a day-use park in 2012, on a date that will be determined later. Thanks to everyone who helped out in the master planning process. Your ideas and input helped lay the foundation for what will be an outstanding Colorado State Park, the first State Park in Jefferson County.
Staunton State Park is now recruiting partners. The staff invites you to come to one of our two Partner Recruitment Open Houses to learn about partnership opportunities and how to become a Staunton State Park Partner:
• Saturday, March 31 at the Mountain Resource Center, 11030 Kitty Drive, Conifer, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
• Monday, April 2 at the Elk Creek Fire Department, 11993 Blackfoot Road, Conifer, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
What are Staunton State Park Partners? They are players on the same team - organizations and individuals with a common vision of what needs to be accomplished. Staunton is looking for individuals and organizations to be Park Partners as:
Volunteers: Individuals or groups that offer their service for free. Examples of volunteer opportunities at Staunton are trail projects, wildlife monitoring, weed mitigation, fence building, and education program development.
Friends of Staunton State Park: A non-profit organization established to support and promote the park by raising funds to preserve and enhance the park's natural and recreational resources, protect its boundaries, increase public awareness, and enhance educational and interpretive activities.
Stakeholders: Organizations with a business interest that overlaps a park need or proposed activity. Current stakeholders include the Colorado State Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service. Examples of stakeholder opportunities are rock climbing instruction, outdoor skills instruction, outdoor recreation events, and education opportunities.
Contributors: Individuals and organizations that make monetary or in-kind contributions to the park. The contributions are often tied to a specific fund or earmarked for a special project.
Partnering is an essential and effective means for Colorado Parks and Wildlife to fulfill its mission, foster the shared sense of stewardship that is crucial to our future, and involve Coloradans in the protection and enjoyment of their parks.
No RSVP is necessary. Light refreshments will be served. Hope to see you March 31 or April 2. If you can't attend either of these, and are interested in partnering, contact Staunton State Park Manager Jennifer Marten at (303) 816-0912.
