2011 MDHA Forkhorn Camp Record
Minnesota Deer Hunters Association (MDHA) Sponsored Forkhorn Summer Camps recorded their highest attendance in 2011 with 802 youth attending camps! Of those 802 youth attending the seven premier camp facilities, MDHA chapters across Minnesota sponsored tuition scholarships for 509 of the youngsters, totaling approximately $175,000.
MDHA Forkhorn camps offer three levels of experience that provide a "hands on" approach to youth outdoor education.
Forkhorn I; teaches introductory hunting techniques, compass orienteering, wildlife management, outdoor survival skill, canoeing, and more. The camp culminates with children earning their MN Firearm Safety Certificate.
Forkhorn II; teaching bow hunting certification, gps, advanced outdoor skills, specialty hunting techniques, marksmanship, big game ecology, and more. This camp allows campers to earn their MN Bow Hunter Certification.
Forkhorn III; offering advanced marksmanship, beginning handgun training, hunter ethics and responsibilities and advanced hunting preparation/planning/techniques and more. This camp culminates with each graduate earning their MN Advanced Hunter Certification.
Founded in 1985, MDHA's Forkhorn Camps are interactive and designed to instill into the youngsters an appreciation for our natural resources. "We are training our next generation of conservation leaders," reports MDHA Executive Director Mark Johnson. "By providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to enjoy the outdoors our objective is to nurture an indelible appreciation for our great outdoors. If they decide to hunt, camp, or fish in the future, so much the better."
