Hello everyone. As past President, and a current board member of Kid's Outdoor Day, I would like to invite you to come and join us for a grand day
of outdoor events at our "Kid's Outdoor Day".
Kid's Outdoor Day is a non profit outdoor fellowship staffed entirely by volunteers. The event is held the 1st weekend in June every year, at Green River Lake State Park. This year the date is June the 7th.
We, along with NWTF, Remington, Tim Horton's children's camp ( Camp Kentahten), Hevi Shot, Brunton, CCI, and a host of other major national and local sponsors, conduct the single largest children's outdoor day in Kentucky. We are also one of the nation's largest one day outdoor sportsman's events for children. Last year we had over 1000 children sign up and attend. This is not including the 1500+ adults that accompanied them.
In the past, our door prizes have surpassed well over the $1000.00 mark. The 1st 1000 children get a free tee shirt and gift bag. (This year we hope to have enough sponsors to make that the 1st 1200 children). A free lunch is provided for the children as well. In addition to the above, we have water stations placed next to the events as well as the Kentucky National Guard's water buffalo on site.
The list of the events include, but are not limited too, (as we hope we can add more this year) .22 rifle shooting station, trap station, 2 mountain man stations, archery, fishing, boating (where the children and adults actually get to go on Green River Lake), canoeing / kayaking, turkey, duck, goose, and predator calling, air rifle shoot plus several more exciting events. For the younger children activities like face painting, bounce house, and an inflatable obstacle course is made available. As I stated before, we hope to add several more events this year.
All of this is done to introduce the children to the outdoors and outdoors related events. It is made possible by volunteers and sponsors. If you have a children's group that you oversee or belong to, I urge you to come. Parent / Parents are of course encouraged to bring their children as well. We require that an adult stay with each child throughout the day, as this is not a "babysitting" service.
We do need volunteers to help. The logistics of feeding and overseeing 1000+ children through many events is sometimes mind boggling! Men and women that love the outdoors are always welcome to come and be part of this great event. It goes with out saying, we also want more children to come and enjoy this day. The bigger the better.
