Now on to the report:
As many of you know I report on the Licking river, North fork, both feed Cave Run's main lake.
Lake conditions
Water is lightly stained in the Nork Fork area, Main Licking river was more stained, and as you get up Licking in the area passed the North Fort split the water is even more stained
some creeks added to the clearing in the head waters of some coves that have fairly big creeks.
From the main lake to the 1274 bridge, the water is very fish able then, as I said, the Northfork area is in a little better shape.
water temp range from 61 to 63..
Musky.. the musky fishing was fair, we hook two musky one each day, we lost both after the first head shake, both were on old weed bed areas on flats holding water of about 6 to 8 feet.
The musky we hooked were both keepers one looked to be about mid 30" and the other was close to 40" we hooked both fish on crankbaits.
Bass.. The bass fishing was very good, we caught 16 the first day, and 18 on Sunday and we had no real dinks.. most of the fish ranged from 13 to 18 then we did catch one hog!
here are a few pictures to give you a feel of what I'm talking about

This was on Saturday I fished with my daughter "Christy" on Saturday
This was Sunday I fished with my grandson "Tyler" on Sunday, the pattern held up both days and was getting better
as the front move in.
How good did it get.. well... This fish was 24 inches and on my little de-lier scale it went 6lbs 14 oz just a tad under
7lbs.
The bass were caught on 3 different kinds of lures, crankbait, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits, I will break this all down in the newsletter article
but the bass are pretty hot if you're throwing the right stuff.
Bass are in pre-spawn staging and your chance to catch a really big bass is at its best now.
Crappie....The crapping are also getting ready to spawn, but we have two types of crappie on Cave Run, white Crappie and Black Crappie.
the black Crappie are staging in shallow areas around old weed beds, we also caught some on banks where flats ran out for a good way before dropping into the channel
while White Crappie were still holding around standing timber and old brush piles.

We caught about 50 crappie most of them were white crappie, they were very easy to catch. The Black Crappie
seem to run a little larger and required you to move around more to find them, they seem to be paired off if you catch a couple
you just had to move around on the flat to find another pair..
I'm posting this picture as a reward to my grandson for being a good net man for this fish..
If you want to read the full story about this trip and the exact lures that we used, make sure you are signed up for the newsletter
it will be going out this week
