KENTUCKY'S SALES OF COMMERCIAL FISHING LICENSES RESUMES MAY 1
Frankfort, Ky. - The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will resume the sale of commercial fishing licenses on
May 1.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife temporarily suspended the sale of commercial fishing licenses last September over concerns about the sustainability of the commercial harvest of caviar from shovelnose sturgeon and paddlefish.
"Not everyone who could purchase a license did so before the freeze," said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "This will allow additional commercial fishing licenses to be sold this year."
A resident commercial fishing license cost $150 annually and a non-resident commercial fishing license costs $600.
"They may come here to the Fish and Wildlife Headquarters in Frankfort and purchase them or they may send in their application and money and we will mail it to them," Buynak said. "Harvest reports must be up to date before a license will be issued."
Commercial fishing license applications are available by calling 1-800-858-1549, or online at fw.ky.gov. Search under keywords, "commercial fishing license."
To purchase a commercial license by mail, send a completed application and the fee to:
