Air temp .... 50
Water temp ... 48
Too beautiful a weekend to not get out and enjoy some time on the lake! Fish were more scattered than I would expect this time of the year and did not find them in typical areas like bluff walls ... steep banks .. etc. Everything I caught came off flats in the major creek arms. Fished the area behind the state park as well as another major arm fairly close. (not looking at a map right now to tell you which one) Rounding one point heading back to a 'fall' the electronics lit up and that's where the stripers were. Caught one just under 10 pounds on a jerkbait (and ten pound test no less) .. one about 7 on an Alabama Rig ... and lost another big one on the rig. Was a fun flurry! The smallmouth all came off the same two lures though I did throw a jig for a fair amount of time. All fish caught on the jerkbait were caught on the pause. I would literally make myself count to 5 or 8 on the pauses to keep me from fishing it too fast. Ended with about 20 total with a mix of largemouth, spotted, smallmouth and stripers.
Fun day to be on the water in February!!!
