First time to this body of water so wasn't sure what to expect. It's a TN River impoundment so similar to Guntersville.
Spent the first half of day one probing the many docks on secondary points as well as rocky points leading back into the bays ... as I would normally do in Fall. Special note about this lake in early Fall ... I have never seen a lake where fish seem to AVOID wood!! Never got a bite on a lay down nor a dock the entire trip.
Mid way through day one I was fishing some grass edges using a Rage Shad and the first fish on Chickamauga turned out to be a 4 1/2 pounder. Two cast later from the same area and I hit a 2 1/2 pounder. Throughout the rest of the trip I continued to check points, laydowns and any "pinch" spots to no avail. (pinch spots defined as areas where the banks close in together and 'funnel' fish through an area such as a bridge area) Area in front of all three bridges leading to back waters had shad stacked up but could not coax a bite. Spent most of my time working the grass ..... used a spook in the submerged grass and a frog deep into the pockets when the sun came up. Missed three good ones .... two I had on and one I saw as she swiped at the lure. Lot of fun and I like the way the lake fishes. Got to mark another off the bucket list! =)
