This Week on North American Fisherman--Great Lakes Salmon Plus Knot Wars
![]() |
Minnetonka, MN - - This week on North American Fisherman-TV, the tables are turned as host Capt. Eric Haataja invites his co-host, Capt. Tyler Kapela, up from Florida to the Milwaukee Harbor for Tyler's first freshwater fishing expedition in the Midwest. Tyler quickly connects with king salmon and experiences action like he's never seen before. We'll also take a look at how invasive species are entering our waters, followed by the final results of the line-to-line championship on Knot Wars Lite. Enjoy the same action and so much more by visiting the North American Fisherman You Tube Channel.
In a previous episode, Kapela invited Haataja to his home in southern Florida for a variety of saltwater fishing fun. Haataja wanted to return the favor, and Kapela quickly learned how to catch multiple salmon from the Lake Michigan harbor.
"Eric told me about all the awesome opportunities in the upper Midwest, so I was excited to get up here and see what it was all about. This is all new to me," he explains.
Kapela quickly hooks his first king using a flicker shad. "This big king salmon grabs a hold of the bait and starts running. I couldn't believe how strong these fish are. They fight harder than a lot of saltwater fish I'm used to," he continues.
Many anglers overlook the upper Midwest, but according to Haataja, it's the best place for a wide variety of multi-species fishing. "I just love this area so much as there are so many opportunities to catch a variety of fish-not just on Great Lakes, but going inland a little as well," says Haataja.
This week is also the Knot Wars Lite Championship with the Palomar Knot versus Improved Reverse Clinch Knot. Did your favorite win?
This week's Field Test powered by StuffStuff takes a look at the Mustang Survival Catalyst Floating Jacket and the Abu Garcia Orra Spinning Reel. And "Silent Invaders" discusses the latest advancements about encouraging overseas cargo ships to change their ballast water in order to reduce the amount of invasive species entering our waters.
